I used to be hesitant about growing orchids. I have found that if I keep them out of direct sunlight, but in a spot that gets plenty of bright in-direct light they do very well. Also, orchids like humidity so keep them away from heat sources. I keep my pots on a tray filled with gravel. I water the gravel once a week or so. If the orchid looks a little droopy, I will also mist with a very fine mister. I find I need to do this in the winter more often than the summer because of the furnace.
