How can I take a cutting from an orchid to grow another one?

My mom and I each bought a new vanda and I'd like to take a cutting from hers to see if I can get it to grow. Is that possible with orchids? I'm a pro at normal house plants, but orchids make me nervous when it comes to their care.

You cannot propagate orchids from cuttings. Vandas can only realistically be propagated from tissue culture or seed…best left to the professionals (unless of course you want to try yourself, but you need absolutely sterile conditions).

cut a small branch that is alive off the tree.
then root it.
you root the branch my leaving it in a cup of water for a few weeks until you see baby roots forming where you cut it. once they are visible plant them in a small pot and start growing the tree.
