I have had great success with orchids!
Phalenopsis is the most common that you will find in stores. They grown in bark, not soil. They shoul be in a clay pot with a drainage hole in the bottom. Don’t waste your time or $$ with anything in decorative pot. If you buy them in a plastic pot with the florist celophane on it, remove the cellophane.

Place the pot in a pot saucer much larger then the diameter of the pots top. Place decorative rocks in the saucer and keep fillled with water. This way the plant recieves the humidity from the water’s evaporation. I have really big saucers with 3- 8" pots in each. They also like to be misted.

Only use Orchid fertizer, regualr house plant fertilizer is too strong.

Never transplant unless you see lots of roots forcing their way out of the top of the pot.

If you do not a lot of light buy a cheap clamp on utility light and put a grow bulb in it.

This also works for lady slipper (papyapedlium ??).
Your orchid will bloom several times a year!

Orchids need humidity lots of it. Most private houses have central heating or something similar which makes the air dry. The only way I can think of is to make a mini hot house with glass or plastic and keep it in there with a humidifier,

These people will tell you all you need to know. It depends upon what type of orchid you have, as orchids are native in one from or another to all nations and lands. All their needs are different as well.
