Raymond Jungles on The Orchid Show: Brazilian Modern by The New York Botanical Garden

As the designer of The Orchid Show: Brazilian Modern, Raymond Jungles brings the naturalistic subtropical aesthetic that has brought him fame in Florida and the Caribbean to The New York Botanical Garden. Founder of the Miami-based Jungles Landscape Architect, he focuses primarily on private residential gardens, but also works on planned communities, commercial sites, and resort hotels. Jungles has been recognized with 35 awards for his work from various organizations and has been showcased in 29 books and 44 periodicals. His work illustrates an interest in and dedication to the preservation of natural habitat and use of indigenous species. For The Orchid Show, Jungles has drawn inspiration from his mentor, the late Brazilian landscape architect, artist, and self-taught horticulturist Roberto Burle Marx. Jungles first met Burle Marx when he was a student at the University of Florida. Thereafter Jungles made frequent trips to Brazil to learn from Burle Marx at his work sites, studio, and estate. Through his use of native plants, sculpture, hardscape, and water features, as well as his devotion to preserving natural habitats and indigenous species, Jungles work bears the mark of his legendary mentor. Escape to a tropical paradise at The Orchid Show: Brazilian Modern, featuring beautiful displays of thousands of orchids throughout the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. In its 7th year, brilliantly colored orchids and the lush tropical setting of a contemporary Brazilian garden await visitors. Miami-based landscape architect Raymond Jungles has created this contemporary Brazilian garden design, inspired by his mentor, Roberto Burle Marx , an icon of Brazilian design. The design features fountains, pools, and colorful mosaics combined with graceful palms, delicate orchids, bromeliads, and other native plants of Brazil. The orchids have been selected by the Manager of the Nolen Greenhouses for Living Collections at the Botanical Garden and Curator of The Orchid Show, Marc Hachadourian and are featured throughout the Haupt Conservatory. Beyond beauty, the show offers the chance to learn about orchids: the most diverse species of flower on earth, orchid preservation at The Garden, and ongoing research and conservation efforts by Botanical Garden scientists in Brazil. In addition, there are many educational activities including Chocolate and Vanilla Adventures in the Everett Childrens Adventure Garden, Home Gardening Demonstrations, and other exciting programming.
